China’s empty city
Billions of dollars have been poured into the construction of the new Ordos City, and real estate has sold like hotcakes, yet the city built for millions remains eerily empty, only inhabited by a few thousand construction workers.
The 1.5 million residents of old Ordos aren’t yet willing to move to the city without an economy, in addition to the fact that many have been priced out of the market by speculators. Is this China’s city of the future or a bubble ready to burst?
