Hawaii International Film Festival

http://www.asiapacificfilms.com/

2010 marks the thirtieth year that the Hawaii International Film Festival (HIFF) has been presenting the finest Asian and Pacific Island films to the people of Hawaii and beyond. HIFF’s purpose remains promoting cultural understanding between the East and West through the screening of the films made by Asians and Pacific Islanders.
Up to 80,000 people attend the festival each year, making the Hawaii International Film Festival the largest “East meets West” Festival in the United States. One of the many unique features about HIFF is that each year a selection of HIFF festival movies are shown free for the public on Waikiki beach under the clear Hawaiian skies. HIFF is the sister festival of Shanghai International Film Festival and Shanghai Media and Entertainment Group.
Many internationally acclaimed films that are streaming on AsiaPacificFilms.com were introduced to the West during HIFF. These titles include: Mother Courage (Tjoet Nja Dhien) directed by Eros Djarot from Indonesia; Pari, directed by Dariush Mehrjui from Iran; The Eunich directed by Lee Doo-Young of Korea; Act of War: the Overthrow of the Hawaiian Nation directed and produced by Na Maka o Ka `Aina.
